8 Week Update

In 8 weeks I have lost 28 lbs. I am averaging 2 lbs a week and eating as much as I want. One more pound and I will go from obese to overweight on the chart.  I had my blood work done this week so we will see if my cholesterol of 225 (total) has dropped. I'm pretty sure it has.

Other benefits:

I can now "run" 2.5 miles without stopping (if there is someone to yell at me!).

This is prime allergy season for me and I am not suffering from allergies at all. I'm not taking any antihistmines.

A fog has been lifted from my brain, my thoughts are clearer and I am less forgetful.

Energy! I can clean all morning, shop all afternoon, and still have energy for a long walk in the evening - all on the day after we did taxes late at night!

Sex drive? Check!

Food tastes amazing. Fruit is like candy used to be. I actually prefer a salad to most any meal (I still think this is weird).

Very few cravings. In fact the only time I crave is if I get too hungry - which is rare because I am always eating.

I wake up fresh and ready to go.

I have no need for caffeine at all. I used to drink at least 3 diet Dr. Peppers a day. Now it tastes gross to me and water is much more satisfying.

PMS? What PMS?

And, my hair and fingernails are growing fast.
........................

What I ate yesterday:
  • Oatmeal with blueberries
  • Ran 2.5 miles (ack! I still can't believe it!)
  • Banana and grapes
  • Lunch at Olive Branch - Amazing bean burrito with vegetarian green chili and delicious pico de gallo
  • Small handful of almonds
  • Small piece of 70% dark chocolate
  • Vegan quiche
  • apple
  • Lots of water! Very thirsty day!

I think it's time to post a before and after (or during)photo of you and Roland. How many pounds has he lost?
I have (with various minor cheats) been on this diet for 5 weeks and have lost 18 lbs. Weight loss was not my motivation to start and to continue this discipline. High cholesterol, back pain and arthritis pain were the main motivators. I used to take 1-4 Tramadol /day. I've had none in the past 4 weeks. That is significant. I have more energy.

I still have occasional carb cravings but they are satisfied by a huge glass of water and small serving of whole grain bread, 1-2warmed corn tortilla, or bananas.

Last night I almost went into panic mode when I realized that we are out of spinach and won't be able to shop until Monday.

Today I got out my 35 year old Champion Juicer that I haven't used in years. We had fresh carrot juice with breakfast & now I'm making fat-free & sugar-free carrot pulp & whole wheat cookies.

Mom! I'm so impressed that you have no need for pain meds! That is almost miraculous. You are doing great.

Trinity - I feel like I'm totally hooked into the karma flow.

hmm... what about seasonal allergies? my kids suffer. SUFFER. do you really think if i change their diet, it will make a difference to their grass allergies?? i want to embrace all this, but i am a skeptic. i do believe it works for other people, but i don't think that
a) it's a realistic approach for a busy family with young children
b) it works for everyone. what if i'm part of the "everyone it doesn't work for" part of the equation??
